Power the device on. Various symptoms may occur during a data corruption, but if files are unable to be opened or there are noticeable changes in the device that cause it to be inoperable, some files may have corrupted. Corrupted data can cause damage to the hard drive itself within a laptop. Consider replacing the hard drive using this guide.
Press the power button of the device. Go to the settings of the device. Go to the system tab then check storage. If the storage is at maximum, it may be a good idea to try and empty space by deleting files. Otherwise, consider a hard drive upgrade and replace the previous hard drive with this guide.
The keyboard’s keys will not respond or are having trouble functioning normally.
Power on the device. Attempt to type onto any form of document. If there is no response from a portion of the keys while others are working, the keyboard or keys may have malfunctioned in a number of various ways. Consider replacing the keyboard if cleaning does not work by using this guide.
Power on the device. Attempt to type with the keyboard. If none of the keys respond at all, then the keyboard has stopped working altogether or it has been disconnected by the ribbon cable. Remove the keyboard and reattach the cable, or replace the keyboard using this guide.
Power on the device. Attempt to type with the keyboard. If the keys are getting stuck in the keyboard or having trouble returning to their position, the keyboard is most likely dirty. Consider cleaning the keyboard, and if problems persist, refer to the keyboard broken section.
The laptop runs very poorly when attempting to run multiple resources or a single high-resource program.
Power on the device. Attempt to operate the device with multiple programs running. Open up the task manager. If the amount of memory usage is near or exceeds 100 percent, then the laptop lacks sufficient RAM to run the programs it is currently running. Perform a ram upgrade using this guide.
Power on the device. Attempt to operate the device with multiple programs running. Open task manager. If the memory usage is not nearing 100 percent, and the CPU may be running high usage, then the laptop has most likely been damaged internally. Consider replacing the CPU.
The device will not power on, or it will not hold a charge after being taken off the charger.
Plug the device into a charger and see if it will light up as charging. If the device is able to be powered on and lights up, it is able to be charged. However, if the battery charge of the device itself does not increase, the battery will not take in the charge. Consider purchasing a new replacement battery and inserting it using this guide.
Plug the device into a charging adapter. If the device is not turning on, and there is no light, the battery is most likely entirely dead and will not take charge. Consider purchasing a new replacement battery and replacing the old battery with this guide.
The laptop cannot locate or cannot connect to a wifi service.
Power the device on. Go into the network and data settings section. If there are no wifi connections being shown to connect, then the wifi chip has malfunctioned. Consider replacing it using this guide.
Power on the laptop. Check the wifi and network section of the settings. If there are wifi signals showing on the screen, the wifi chip is able to function normally. This means the problem is most likely a router problem.
The laptop’s disk tray will not open or close, or it will not properly read the disks
Make sure the device is charged. Press the disk tray button on the side of the device. If the tray does not open on its own, the tray is most likely jammed. Open the device to remove the disk tray. If there is nothing inside the disk tray to cause a jam, the tray itself is faulty and will need to be replaced using this guide.
Make sure the device is charged. Press the disk tray button. If the tray is able to open and close and disks can be inserted, the tray is working properly. Most likely, the laptop’s drivers are outdated. Update the laptop’s drivers.
