Bluetooth needs to be enabled on your device before a Bluetooth connection can be activated.

To check if Bluetooth is enabled on your device, search “Airplane Mode” in the Windows search bar. Clicking the top link will bring you to the Settings menu for Airplane Mode. In this menu, make sure that Bluetooth is ON in order to activate a Bluetooth connection. Turning on Airplane Mode turns off Bluetooth.

Note: Bluetooth can be used while in Airplane mode, but must be manually turned on in the Airplane Mode menu in Settings.

If you are not sure if your Bluetooth device has connected, first search “device manager” in the windows search bar. Click “Device Manager”, and then click the small “>” next to “Bluetooth.” If you see the device in the list, that means Bluetooth is on. If it is not in the list, right-click the words “Bluetooth” and then click “Enable Device,” and then try to pair your device.

Some devices can interfere with a Bluetooth connection. Before using Bluetooth, make sure the device’s Bluetooth is turned on and that your device is within 33 ft of the computer. Make sure there are no physical objects between your device and the computer, and ‘’turn off any other Bluetooth connections to the computer’’ by using the “Device Manager” menu before pairing your device.

An out-of-date Bluetooth driver can cause Bluetooth issues.

To check whether the Bluetooth driver is out-of-date, navigate to “device manager,” click the “>” for the drop-down menu, and right click on your device and click “Update Driver.” Then, click “Search automatically for updated driver software.” If an update is available, click update, and then try to pair your device.

If an update is unavailable, go ‘’back’’ to the Device Manager, right-click your device and click “Uninstall Device.” Uninstall the device, and ‘’restart your computer’’ to reset your connections. Then, try to pair your device by reactivating the Bluetooth connection on your device.

You feel the computer start to get very hot.

You can hear the fan inside the laptop spinning loudly.

Computer is slowing down or does not turn on.

First, try blowing out any dust from the cooling vents that are located on the sides, along with the underside of the computer. If this does not seem to solve the issue, try opening the back cover of the computer and cleaning all surfaces from dust. These surfaces include fans and vents located inside the computer itself. When these get clogged with dust, the fan cannot properly cool off the computer, which causes it to overheat. This can be done manually, with a vacuum, or by using compressed air. Make sure the computer is off and unplugged before doing so.

If you have already tried clearing the internal fan of any dust and it still does not run properly, a replacement fan may be needed. Look to this repair guide on how to replace this fan correctly.

If your computer is still overheating, try placing it in a cooler room when in use. Another option is to use the power switching feature of the computer, which offers the option to switch to a lower power CPU state in which the computer runs cooler. The feature name depends on the model, in which it could be called ‘Low power mode’, ‘Cool control’, or ‘Balanced mode.’

Note* If you are experiencing trouble connecting a Bluetooth input device, go to Unable to Connect a Bluetooth Device

USB devices use a receiver to work. Locate the USB receiver for the device, and ensure it is plugged directly into a USB port. If you cannot locate the USB, check the original packaging. It may also be in a USB storage container on or in the device.

If there are any paper or plastic tabs sticking out of the device, remove them. These tabs prevent the device from getting power.

Check the batteries in the device. Open the battery port and make sure batteries are placed correctly, with the “plus” side of the battery aligned to the “plus” indicated in the battery port. Before testing your device, make sure ‘’’power switch is turned on’’’ and any LED lights on the device are on as well. If you have accounted for these factors and your device is still not working, you may need to replace the batteries.

Note* If device is rechargeable, connect the power cord to the device and plug it into a USB port or a USB power adapter. There should also be an LED battery indicator which shows that the device is working and receiving power. In order for this light to be on, there needs to be working batteries in the device.

Ensure that the power switch is turned on on the device.

Check for a device driver update by using the device manager. In Windows, search for and open “device manager.” Click the arrow next to Keyboards or Mice and other pointing devices to see what is currently installed in your computer. Right-click on the device, and select the option to update the driver.

Computer shows no indication of being powered on

First, check to see if your computer is out of battery. Plug your charger into an electrical socket, and then plug it into your laptop and wait a few minutes. Then, try to turn the laptop on. If this fails, you may have an issue with your battery or screen.

If the power button lights up or you can hear the fan spinning but the screen shows no indication of the screen powering on, the computer may have a screen issue. Try detaching and reattaching the screen using this guide. If the screen still does not work, try obtaining a new screen here and replacing the old screen with the new screen.

If your computer does not charge or shows no indication of turning on, there may be an issue with the battery. To remedy this issue, first try taking out the battery (using this guide) and putting it back in, then plugging in the charging port and pressing the power button. If the computer still does not power on, either follow the troubleshooting for ‘’Faulty Screen’’ above or obtain a new battery for the device here and try replacing the old battery with the new battery.

Your computer is not responding.

If there are too many programs running on the computer, the computer may run slowly or fail to respond. If programs are failing to respond, close some of the programs by left-clicking on their icon in the taskbar and clicking the X button in the top corner. If the program does not open, right-click their icon in the task bar and “close window." Closing the program may take a few moments, so be patient.

If you click on the exit button or “close window” and the program still does not close, press

[ctrl] + [alt] +[delete], then click “Task Manager,” and then click “End Task” for each program that says it is not responding.

Alternatively, you can restart your computer by clicking the Windows logo, clicking the power symbol, and then clicking restart.

If you cannot navigate your computer at all and you cannot close any programs, try turning off your computer manually using the power button and turning it back on again. Make sure to hold the power button down for a few seconds.

If this does not work, remove the battery from the laptop using this guide and hold down the power button for four seconds or more to shut down the computer.

If your computer does not respond to your keyboard or touchpad inputs, you may have to repair the keyboard or touchpad. To do this, use the following guide.
