The laptop does not turn on or once it turns on it dies immediately
When the laptop is plugged in the battery shows full charge but once the laptop is unplugged the laptop dies. This can be a sign of the battery not being able to hold a charge any longer due to age or internal issues. Replace the battery with a new one to resolve the problem.
When the laptop is plugged in the battery shows low charge. The battery can either show that it is not charging while plugged in or that it is charging but the battery charge percentage does not change. These can be signs of a bad power adapter that is not charging the battery when it is plugged into an AC source. Replacing the adapter might fix the issues.
When opening the laptop the screen can be hard to lift or when it lifts it makes a “cracking” noise
Inspect both hinges of the laptop thoroughly. The hinge might be split open or cracked. The hinge could also be not sitting straight in its seat. Both of these problems can cause an audible cracking noise to occur when the laptop is opened. Replace with one or both hinges to fix the problem.
The touchpad buttons do not recognize clicks or selections with them
On some touchpads, you can turn the TouchPad on or off by double-tapping in the upper-left corner of the TouchPad. Double-tap to turn the TouchPad on; repeat to turn the TouchPad off. If this does not correct the issue you will have to make sure your Touchpad is up to date to the latest version of windows and the latest drivers are installed on your computer. If updating the drivers does not fix the issue, replace the touchpad buttons.
The internal microphone will not function properly or won’t pick up sound at all
Audio drivers may not always be up to date and can mess with your microphone not functioning properly. To be certain this is the case, make sure the audio driver is current by using. If this doesn’t work, consider using the troubleshooting tool to look for other solutions.
When it comes to microphone issues, sometimes an application has issues rather than the device itself. Open another way to record sound or try hard resetting the computer by shutting down the laptop. This should help verify the issue, but you might need to take further precautions.
Speakers do not emit any sound or the sound is distorted.
If the user is experiencing the problem only when using an external speaker or headphone, a bad connection might be the problem. Check if the cord is properly connected to the laptop.
When the user updates or downloads software, sound software can be affected and become corrupted. To diagnose the software, type fix audio and go through the test. If a new driver is required, go to the HP Software Download page and download the appropriate driver.
When the speaker is malfunctioning due to physical problems, replace it with a new part. Get the new part from the online shop, such as eBay or HP online shop, and replace the malfunctioning speaker to a new one.
The device is overheated and running programs are slowed down.
If your PC is overheating, make sure there is adequate ventilation around the computer, the fan vents are clean, and the fan drivers are up to date. If there is excessive vibration or loud noises coming from the fan, you might need to replace the fan.
NOTE: It is normal for the fans to spin loudly for five to twenty seconds when the computer initially turns on.
HP Support lists some issues to help identify if your PC is overheating.
- After pressing the button power, the computer freezes on a black screen and Windows does not start, or Windows starts but does not respond.Basic tasks or applications take more time to complete than usual.Windows does not respond, suddenly restarts, or displays an error message while in use.Games stop responding during play.Fans inside the computer become louder as they start spinning faster to remove excess heat. The mouse and keyboard stop responding.
The device cannot read/burn CDs
If you are trying to burn or read a disk, you may experience an error stating that the drive cannot be found or nothing will happen at all.
If you recently updated to windows 8 or 10 and the drive was working before, try to clear the upper and lower registry filters.
If this does not fix the problem, make sure all drivers and updates are current.
If all problems continue, you may have to replace the optical drive.
