The Chromebook’s fans are not cooling in the heat sink.
Often, a computer overheating is due to issues with the fan. While this could be due to the fan breaking, dust and other materials getting stuck in the fan are more often the cause. If this is the issue, use this guide to remove the debris.
Chromebook fan malfunctions typically due to overheating. If this happens, replacing the fan is the most efficient option. Use this guide to replace the fan.
The Chromebook does not respond to the charger.
The laptop not being able to keep a charge could be due to the condition of the battery. Over time, the capacity of a battery will shorten. If this happens, replacing the battery is recommended. Use this guide to replace the battery.
If the laptop is unable to charge itself, this could also be due to the adapter itself not functioning. If this happens, purchase a new power adapter or a used one that is in good condition.
The Chromebook does not properly display on the screen.
A screen can become cracked or broken if excessive force or damage is applied to the screen. This will present as a physical break in the screen or the video output may not be coming through correctly. To replace the screen, follow this guide: Chromebook 14 Screen Replacement.
If the screen is black, white, or flickering, it’s possible that the video connector leading from the screen to the motherboard is loose or disconnected. To fix this, follow this guide.
The Chromebook does not respond to keystrokes.
If specific keys are not giving inputs, this could be caused by dust and debris in the keyboard. If this occurs, clean the keyboard with condensed air and contact cleaner. If the keys are damaged, refer to the Missing Keys and Broken Keys section.
In the event that keys are missing from the keyboard, find the specific keys to replace the missing ones. Use this guide for reference.
Keys can break or be damaged which can prevent keys from giving inputs. If that is the case, use this guide to replace the damaged key.
The Chromebook won’t start up.
If the Chromebook is out of power, plug in the power adapter. Make sure the power adapter is plugged into the Chromebook and allow some time for the laptop battery to receive a charge then attempt to power it up by pressing the ‘power’ button. If the Chromebook is not turning on then it may be unable to charge, refer to the tab ‘The Device cannot charge’.
Over time, the hard drive in your computer can wear itself out. Hard drive errors can either be caused by hardware or software issues. To determine what you need to do, you should start up the system’s troubleshooting screen at startup, and use it to check the hard drive. If this still does not fix the problem, then follow the following guide to replace the hard drive: How to remove a Hard Drive.
If the Chromebook won’t start up, then it’s possible the motherboard may be damaged. The motherboard acts as the main circuit board of the device and without it, the computer can’t function. If the motherboard is indeed damaged, replacing it is the ideal situation recommended for dealing with this situation. Use this guide to replace the motherboard.
