Uninstalling programs from your MacBook or iMac can be helpful for many reasons. Having fewer programs on your computer frees up disk space and helps keep the computer operating quickly and smoothly. Additionally, some apps designed for macOS won’t update properly without uninstalling the old version first. To learn how to uninstall a program from a Mac, follow the steps below.
Uninstalling an app or program
Click the Finder icon on the Dock at the bottom of the screen.
On the left side of the window that appears, under the Favorites section, click the selector.
Locate the app/program you’d like to uninstall.
Right-click the application icon and select Move to Trash from the drop-down menu.
If you don’t see the application you’d like to remove, check your downloads folder by clicking the selector instead.
- When you’ve finished choosing programs to uninstall, right-click the trash icon on the Dock.
You can also move an application to the Trash by clicking it once, and then pressing the Command and Delete keys at the same time.
- Select Empty Trash.
