Introduction

Position the trencher on a flat surface and turn the engine and power off before starting any work.

Step 1

              Engage the hub lock pins               

• Make sure that both ignition switches are turned to the off position. There is one on the engine and one on the control panel.
• Pull the ring near one of the wheel hubs straight out, away from the wheel.
• Rotate it so that the small roll pin lines up with its slot.
• Release the ring so that the lock pin slides into the wheel. You may need to rotate the wheels a little before the lock pin fully engages.
• With the pin engaged, it should be very hard to turn the wheels.
• Repeat this step so that the lock pins on both wheels are engaged.

Step 2

              Loosen the adjuster screw locknut               

• Make sure the boom is in a horizontal position.
• Use a 3/4 inch open-end wrench to loosen the adjuster screw locknut so that you have enough space to tighten the adjuster screw as needed.

Step 3

              Adjust the chain tension               

• Use a 1/2 inch open-end wrench to tighten or loosen the adjuster screw.
• Adjust the screw until there is about a 1 inch gap (3.8 cm, or about two fingers wide) between the bottom of the boom and the lowest part of the top of the chain.

Step 4

              Tighten the adjuster screw locknut               

• After the chain is properly tensioned, use a 3/4 inch open-end wrench to tighten the adjuster screw locknut.
