Introduction

The Zheng strings generally begin to age after two years of use or when the strings are rusty or broken. The strings need to be replaced to ensure the sound quality and high performance. This guide will show how to remove and replace the old strings of the zheng.

What you need

  • Twist the tuning pin to release tension in the string.
  • The string may snap and cause injury if the tension hasn’t been released.
  • Use the diagonal plier to cut the old strings.
  • Remove the zheng bridges from the board.

Step 2

  • Using the zheng wrench, loosen the tuning pins by counterclockwise direction.
  • Turn the pin until there are three loops of the string wound remaining around the pin.
  • Remove the string from the pin.
  • Remove the string at the end side as well.

  • Use a dry cloth to clean the dust under the position of the old string.

  • Untie the new string and hold the tail of the string.
  • Flip the zheng stand. Insert the new string into the corresponding hole and pull all the way until the metal stopper attaches in the hole.
  • Repeat to insert all new strings.

  • Flip the zheng to the back of the head side and insert the other side of the string into the corresponding hole of zheng and the pin.
  • Coil the string tightly around the pin, use the zheng wrench to tight the pin.

Put the zheng bridges underneath the strings in the corresponding order by using the zheng bridge position schematic diagram to detect the zheng bridge position.
