Introduction
Felt footings on chairs and other furniture prevent the legs from scratching hard flooring whenever they are shifted around. Damaged or missing felt footings will result in scratched and damaged floors.
Before using this guide, be sure to remove any dust or debris that has accumulated along the bottom of the legs of whichever piece of furniture you are looking to fix. This debris can be fairly disgusting and if left on, can kick up a lot of dust into the air when you start working.
What you need
Step 1
Felt Footing
- Turn furniture piece upside down so that the leg bottoms are accessible.

Step 3
- Cut away any remaining material or residue so that the chair foot is as clear as possible.
- Depending on the strength of the adhesive that secured the old footing, some of the residue left behind could be tough to remove. In this case, it may be best to keep some rubbing alcohol handy as a solvent to assist in the removal of this residue.
