  • Lay both shirts on a flat surface.
  • Use sewing scissors to cut a button from the old shirt, (preferably from an area that won’t be noticeable).

  • Get a piece of thread, put it through the needle, and make a knot at the end.

  • Insert the needle into the hole where the missing button was located.
  • Pull the thread through to the end until the knot stops it.

  • Take the recycled button and put the needle through the bottom of one of the holes, then down through the second hole.

  • Repeat the process on the backside of the garment.

  • When the needle is on the other side, go through one of the button’s holes again. This step can be repeated as one may like to achieve the desired look for the button.

  • After you are done adjusting the button, go through the other side of the shirt again.
  • Then, rotate the thread around the button around three times.

  • To secure the button in place, grab a piece of fabric and put the needle in between.
  • After making sure it is tight, grab the needle and put it in between the two threads to create a knot.

  • The knot should look like the first picture.
