Introduction

A treadmill is a machine that allows you to walk or run while remaining stationary. Treadmills were introduced as a form of mill in which grain was ground by an individual or animal walking the steps of a treadwheel. Treadmills were invented prior to the invention of powered machines. Treadmills were later used as torture instruments in jail for prisoners sentenced to hard labor. For both the punishment and control mechanisms, the words ’treadmill’ and ’treadwheel’ were used interchangeably.

Treadmills have been used as fitness devices in recent years. To control a moving platform with a large conveyor belt, modern treadmills use an electric motor or a flywheel. The belt travels from the machine’s front to the back, causing the user to walk, run, or jog at the same pace as the belt. Higher-end treadmills are usually powered by an electric motor. Manual treadmills are lighter and less costly treadmills that actively resist the user’s motion and only rock when the walker moves the belt with their feet.

Treadmills are the most common piece of exercise equipment in the world. Treadmills will lose pace and efficiency if they are not maintained on a regular basis. Treadmills should be set up on a level surface to keep the machine’s belt and motor balanced. Dirt and dust that accumulates on the treadmill’s belt or deck should be wiped away once or twice a month with a damp cloth or sponge. Lubrication, alignment, and stress maintenance should all be performed on a regular basis.
