Step 1

              Locate the Battery               
  • Open the hood and prop it open using the hood prop.
  • Locate the battery.
  • Battery acid can cause skin corrosion. Wear protective face coverings, eyewear and gloves to prevent skin contact.

Step 2

              Disconnect the Terminals               
  • Using the 8-mm socket wrench, disconnect the battery terminals.
  • Disconnecting the terminals in the wrong order can damage the battery.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal first.
  • Disconnect the positive terminal second.
  • Keep the negative terminal far away from the battery post once it is disconnected to prevent battery damage.

Step 3

              Remove the Battery               
  • Remove the battery and place it onto a disposable rag.

              Remove the Battery Dust               
  • Scrub inside and around the terminals using the battery brush.
  • Scrub until the dust is gone, or flush with the terminal.
  • Inhaling battery dust is harmful to your lungs.

              Spray the Terminals               
  • Spray the terminals with the acid detector spray.
  • Wait for the spray to change colors.

              Rinse the Battery Box and Terminals               
  • Pour warm water onto the terminals and into the battery box.
  • Repeat steps 5-6 until the corrosion is no longer visible.

              Dry the Battery Box and Terminals               
  • Dry the battery box and terminals using another disposable rag.

              Clean the Terminal Posts               
  • Remove the previous washers.
  • Scrub the battery terminal posts using the battery brush.
  • Scratching the battery can cause leaks and more corrosion.

              Apply the Terminal Cleaner               
  • Spray the terminal posts with the acid detector spray.
  • Wipe the spray off once it changes colors.
  • If there is no color change after a minute, wipe off the spray.

              Dry the Terminal Posts               
  • Dry the terminal posts completely.

              Apply the Battery Protect Spray               
  • Spray the terminals with the battery protect spray.

              Apply the Protective Agents               
  • Spray the battery protect spray onto the terminal posts.
  • Apply the terminal grease onto the new washers.
  • Place the new washers onto the battery terminal posts.

Step 13

              Reconnect the Battery               
  • Place the battery back into the battery box.
  • Reconnect the terminals to the battery posts.
  • Reconnecting the terminals in the wrong order can damage the battery.
  • Reconnect the positive terminal first
  • Reconnect the negative terminal second.

              Let the Battery Dry               
  • Allow the spray and grease to air-dry for 5-minutes.
