Tie a knot two inches from the end of the thread.
Place the opposite end of the thread into a sewing needle.
Rubbing or wetting the end of the thread may make it easier to insert the thread into the sewing needle.

Step 3

Align the metal rib with the region of the fabric panel that it detached from.
If necessary, use scotch tape to secure the metal rib into position so it does not lift up.

Be careful to avoid injury when using a sharp sewing needle.
Insert the sewing needle through the umbrella fabric panel and pull the thread through.
Poke the sewing needle through the underside of the fabric panel on the opposite side of the metal rib and pull the thread through.

Use scissors to cut off any excess thread.

Repeat these steps if there are multiple detached metal ribs from the fabric panel. Once the repair is completed, the umbrella should work properly again.
