  • Lightly sand the problem area with the sand paper in a circular motion.
  • Sand lightly as possible to not permanently damage the LP.

  • Brush off the record with a lint-free cloth or record-cleaning brush in a circular brushing motion.
  • Move the record around using the edge of the record and the palms of your hands (as to not touch the grooves).

  • Put about ¼ tsp. (1.25ml) of soap in the sink.
  • Fill the sink with about 3-4 inches of lukewarm water.
  • Make sure the sink is stopped so water will not drain. To active the soap, stir it around with your hand while filling up the sink.

  • Gloves can be worn, but are not required
  • Put the record in the sink, submerging the record.
  • Turn the record over to ensure both sides of the record were submerged in the water.

  • Make sure the whole surface of the record is wet.
  • Wet the lint free cloth and wash the LP
  • 10 to 15 times in the circular motion seems to work well.

  • Allow the soapy water to drain from the sink.
  • Put the LP record in the sink and run cold water over the LP record.
  • Turn the record with the palms of your hand. After one side is clean, flip it over and do the other.

  • Take a dry lint-free cloth and dry the LP record in a circular motion until wet spots are visibly gone.

Step 9

  • Set the record on the drying rack vertically.
  • Make sure the record is completely dry before playing it again. The record will become damaged, if played while the record is still damp.

After the LP Record is completely dry, you will be able to play and enjoy the repaired record.

If the LP record is not fixed, this could indict a deep scratch that will need to be repaired by a professional.
