- an enamel paint is required but it is not special for microwaves, e.g. the small tins used for modeling will do

remove the rust
- remove the glass tray and roller ring
- rub the affected area with wirewool
- wipe away any debris with a dry cloth

apply the paint
- shake the tin
- apply a thin coat with the brush
- give the paint at least 6 hours to dry
- apply 1 or 2 more coats as appriopriate

replace tray
- make sure paint is fully dry and interior is aired
