Most of those who use the Discord chat service know they have a specific username tied to their account. However, Discord is used in many settings, from gaming to work calls. One of the features it offers is the ability to change your display name, or nickname, on each server. This way, you can use your gamer tag or online persona in some places, and your real name in others. To learn how to change your nickname in Discord, follow the steps below.

How to change your nickname on a Discord server

  • Open the Discord program or navigate to the Discord website.
  • If you access Discord through the website, click the Open Discord button.
  • On the left side of the screen, click the server you want to join.

Although your nickname is the predominant name visible to other members, your account’s username can easily be viewed when someone clicks on your profile. You might want to make sure your username appropriately represents you in any of your servers.

  • Once you’ve selected the server, click its name near the top.

  • Select Change Nickname from the drop-down menu that appears.

  • Type the nickname you want for this specific server, and then click the Save button.

Discord nicknames are case-sensitive, meaning the uppercase and lowercase letters in your new nickname appear exactly as you typed them.
