In early versions of Windows (e.g., Windows 3.x) you can adjust the video settings in MS-DOS by following the steps below.

From the DOS command prompt, type:

cd\windows

Once in the C:\Windows directory, type:

setup

In the setup screen is a list of various current configurations, one of them being your current video settings. If you want to change these settings, navigate using the arrow keys on your keyboard until highlighted. Once highlighted, press Enter and select the new video settings.
