Introduction

What you need

Step 1

              Disassemble the unicycle
  • Follow steps 1-13 of the guide, “InMotion V8 (and variants) Electric Unicycle (EUC) Inner Tube Replacement.” Procure a fresh tube, and disassemble the unicycle until you have removed the old tube.
  • Since you can’t buy a smaller tube, you’ll need to ignore the warnings about using a smaller tube (just use a fresh one)

Step 2

              Split the Tannus liner
  • The liner is a hoop. Cut it open as cleanly and straight as you are able.
  • I tried a chef’s knife and a bread knife before resorting to a masonry blade on a table saw. Even that didn’t cut cleanly, which I guess is a testament to the elasticity and density of this foam…

Step 3

Measure the length of the foam armor and cut to length
  • I packed the armor in snugly, marked the end, added 3/4"– and I was short, I crammed another piece 3" long into the gap. So– add 4" to be safe, you can always cut it shorter.
  • If you have a better technique, please edit this guide!

Step 4

              Trim the overwrap
  • Using scissors, follow the cut line to trim the insert even with the bead.
  • This easy to do while the insert is removed from the tire.

Step 5

              Reinstall the tire half-way
  • Remove the valve cap from the valve stem of the tube. Insert the valve stem into the tire with correct orientation. Reinstall the valve cap.
  • Work the tube into the tire and work one bead of the tire onto the wheel. This is a tight stretch but can be done without tools, using body weight and the heels of your hands.

Step 6

              Arrange the armor and tube
  • Inspect that the tube is inside the armor at the valve, and the armor is not folded under the tube. This is a tactile inspection (see photo), you won’t be able to see it or use tools.
  • Inspect that the tube will not be kinked, or pinched by the tire beads.

Step 7

              Reassemble the unicycle
  • Continue the procedure from step 15 of “InMotion V8 (and variants) Electric Unicycle (EUC) Inner Tube Replacement.”
  • After installing the tire, I removed the valve stem and inflated and deflated the tube several times to distribute any kinks in the oversized tube.

Step 8

              How did it do?
  • Had another flat after 50 days and 240 miles. The armor is significantly compressed. The puncture was on the side wall, so a pinch puncture.
