The Discord chat service has a wide variety of features and customization options. One of these features is the ability to add or edit profile pictures, otherwise known as avatars. To learn how to add, change, or delete your Discord profile picture, select from the list below and follow the steps.

How to add a profile picture on Discord

  • Open the Discord program or navigate to the Discord website.

  • If you access Discord through the website, click the Open Discord button.

  • In the lower-left corner of the screen, you see a section with your username. Click the gear icon.

  • On the next screen, on the left side under User Settings, select My Account if not already selected.

  • In the middle of the My Account screen, click the Upload Avatar button.

  • Navigate to the image you want to use, and then click the button.

  • Crop the image to your liking, then click Apply.

You can also click the Discord logo to the left of your username to add a profile picture.

The Upload Avatar button is only visible if you have not added a profile picture. If you see a kebab menu button (three horizontal dots), you previously added a profile picture. In that case, you can change your profile picture, if desired.

How to change or delete a profile picture on Discord

  • In the middle of the My Account screen, to the right of your name, click the kebab menu button.

  • Select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu.

  • If you chose Change Avatar, select a new picture, and then click the button.

  • Crop the image to your liking, then click Apply.

If you want to change your profile picture and not delete it, you can click your current profile picture as a shortcut.

  • If you chose Delete Avatar, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen.

If you accidentally select Delete Avatar, you can click Reset at the bottom of the screen to get your profile picture back.
