Introduction
Batteries should not be thrown away with regular rubbish, if they contact other pieces of metal or other batteries it can be dangerous. Take the batteries to a collection site for household hazardous waste. For added safety cover the positive and negative terminals with duct tape or electrical tape before disposing of batteries.

Opening the casing of the lamp
- To open up the casing you will need to unscrew four Philips screws which are accessible from the back.

Separate the parts
- Gently separate the halves of the casing and the gears from the main board.

Detach the mainboard
- Unscrew the three Philips screws to release the mainboard and access the printed circuit board.
- Use a multimeter to check the battery voltage. If it is below 3 Volts then move on to the next steps of this repair guide.

Test the compatibility of the new battery
- To make sure that the battery will not be damaged by the recharging of the lamp measure the new battery voltage and the voltage delivered when the crank is spinned.
- Attach a capacitor to the terminals of the old battery. Mount the gears and the crank. After spinning the crank a few times measure the voltage of the capacitor with a multimeter.
- Measure the voltage supplied by the new battery or read the datasheet of the battery. This voltage should be roughly the same as delivered by the crank.
To make sure that the battery will not be damaged by the recharging of the lamp measure the new battery voltage and the voltage delivered when the crank is spinned.

Mount the new battery
- Plug in and let the soldering iron heat up.
- Use caution when using a soldering iron, the tip will be very hot.
- Flip the main board and spot the solderings of the battery terminals.
- Desolder the terminals of the previous battery. Use a desoldering pump if too tedious.
- Melt the solder and softly push the terminals of the new button battery into the holes of the circuit board.
Plug in and let the soldering iron heat up.
