- Before starting, make sure the engine isn’t running and is not hot.
- Using needle-nose pliers, carefully unhook the spring from the end opposite the air filter.

- Use the needle-nose pliers to either lengthen or shorten the hook at the end of the spring.
- If your engine is stalling or refusing to start, try shortening the spring. This will enable more fuel to reach to engine at idle. If the engine is bogged down when running and you hear liquids splashing, try lengthening the spring.

- Carefully re-hook the spring on the arm it was disconnected from.
